| THE BAND |
Phoenix's fire began to kindle in the summer of 1997 when Matt Granado approached Matt Roach about playing together. "We played some Pantera and some Black Sabbath. It was very good for our first time," said drummer Matt Roach. Roach was also drumming in the "Adrenaline Metal" band Impalement.Justin Sherwood was the lead singer of this band. After a while Impalement went their seperate ways. Matt Roach was now ready to commit full time to his new band. In the fall of 1998 they recruited bassist Tony Mould and the maiden line up of Phoenix was formed. They worked vigorusly for the next 6 months on origonal materal. In the February 1999 issue of Scholastic Express(a regonal paper that gose out to businesses and over 32 local high schools) Phoenix was featured. Soon after the band added former Impalement singer Justin Sherwood. With new front man they worked full steam ahead on getting set to play out. In the June 1999 issue of Scholastic Express again Phoenix was featured to announce the addition of a lead singer and three outings. Threir first show was the Clinton High School Battle of the Bands in which they placed 4th out of 15 very talented acts. The amazing thing is that they not only opened the event but only played a 3 song origonal set. The second was opening up for River Rock Nightmare on June 19th at Albies in Utica,NY. The third was a headlining date at a local youth center Mi Casa in Clinton,NY. Today Phoenix is going strong and there is no stoping this very deticated band from releasing their own style of music to the masses. | |||||||||||||||||
